Librarian, musician, creator and never shy about donning a costume — Nikki Williams, known in Alexandra for the elf’s legs sticking out the back of her Fiat at Christmas, is the Central Otago District Council library collections manager.
What are you watching and why?
I love watching Time Team and QI on YouTube but my favourites are The Repair Shop and The Dog House — the stories warm my heart. I also enjoy a good, riveting crime series (but avert my eyes at the gruesome bits).
What are your reading and why?
The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning by Margretta Magnusson (I need to have a good cleanout after being in the one house umpteen years), and Tunisian Crochet Stitch Directory by Anna Nikipirowicz (I’m working on a long-term project).
What are you listening to and why?
The Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon on BorrowBox (available to library members). It’s a classic and was worth revisiting, and Lucy Clarke thrillers for a change of pace. eAudiobooks let me “read” while doing other stuff — I’ll even clean the windows if I’ve got a good book to listen to! I have my dad’s stereo out in my craft space so am listening to old vinyl — Genesis, Steeleye Span, Cat Stevens, J. S. Bach amongst others.
Favourite weekend pastime?
Not gardening — not my thing. Give me some hedge trimmers and that’ll do me! I’m a creative person so you’ll usually find me out in my studio or jamming with friends on my ukulele. I love working with polymer clay, sewing, knitting, crochet . . .
Favourite place in Central Otago and why?
So many places and I really can’t choose. Central Otago is a brilliant place to be.
